A plastics manufacturer came to us with a problem we know well: external contractors and partners get accounts, and then nothing happens afterward. No expiry date, no owner, no automatic deactivation.
The process was simple: submit a ticket, IT creates the account, done. The problem: nobody follows up. Accounts keep running long after the collaboration ends. At the next audit: who actually has access?
We built a complete lifecycle using the au2mator Self-Service Portal and Azure Automation. Required fields: manager and expiry date (max. 12 months). Automation creates the account and notifies everyone. Weeks before expiry, the manager gets a reminder. After expiry, automatic deactivation. MFA and password reset via Self-Service. If the manager leaves, IT is notified.
No external user stays active unnoticed. Full audit trail. IT no longer needs to actively track anything.
